Your thoughts are more or less in line with Mosley himself. Back when they were originally casting the film, I ran into him at a Bouchercon and he told me that he had hoped Danny Glover would get the role, but he feared the studio had their minds set on Washington.

I liked the movie very much, in some ways, but it was a bit too light and airy for my tastes. It lacked a certain, um, heaviness. Possibly Glover could have added some weight and depth to the role. But Don Cheadle IS Mouse.

And it was miles better than HEAVEN'S PRISONERS or V.I. WARSHAWSKI. Probably it's a good thing Robert Crais has refused to let the studios get their hands on his series character.
