I agree that many people are a bit fuzzy on what the blues
actually entails. Just because something follows the "blues
formula" ie. repetition of the first line, doesn't make it
blues. Neither is R&B blues. Blues does tend to have a
rather negative view of things. It is "hurtin' music" without
the country twang. I think it is that negative view of things
that makes it so appropos to things hardboiled.
