RARA-AVIS: Crider and Company

It might be of interest to you to know that Avian(?) regular Bill Crider was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters last night at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio. This is a very prestigious organization in Texas, so it's a nice honor for Bill. I was really happy to see that Joe Lansdale also was inducted. It's rare to see two crime guys get in that group in the same year, so hats off to them. (The class also included James Carlos Blake (whose novels should be of interest to a lot of you) and John Rechy.) And, another crime guy, Neal Barrett Jr., won the Joe Bob Briggs Award (the actual title is more convoluted than this, but I didn't have anything with me with which to write it down) for the best book of humor for INTERSTATE DREAMS.

I left before midnight, so I'm not quite sure who shut down the bar. But it was a good evening.

Later...Kip
