I agree wholeheartedly with Dick Lochte's comments about the early Dick Francis books. I love them all, especially ODDS AGAINST. Great opening paragraph. And I can also recommend Dick's own LAUGHING DOG, which might not be exactly hardboiled but which is pretty damned funny. As for a hardboiled mystery about dogfighting, well, there's a really good one. It's ARIZONA KISS by Ray Ring. Read it if you can find a copy.
