The book with the comment about Husker Du (and it's just an aside, though there are also some references to their neighbors, the Replacements) was Michael Cormany's Lost Daughter, the first in his criminally neglected Dan Kruger series. Of course, it was very hard to find, published by Leisure Books, and now out of print.
