I think the Stag-O-Lee model is well captured in the Pelecanos novels, especially King Suckerman. A number of Moseley's characters can well fit into this mould as well, if you are not too demanding on their heroic qualities. Now if you insist that these be contemporary 'rappers' I cannot offer any suggestions.
