I contributed something on Carney Kill sometime ago. I liked
it, thought the atmospheric or "local color" was well done
(far as I could judge), and it didn't seem to have been
derived from Freaks either. The nighttime carnival setting,
as I remember, gave it a sort of gothic feel--hidden places,
tracking in the dark. Made me want to read more by
Alter.
