I agree. It is possible to hold up Ellery Queen as a pinnacle
of one kind of mystery writing, but it's not really a height
to which anyone else should aspire. I wouldn't argue that
1930-50 was the golden age of the classic American mystery,
but those weren't the best mysteries being written then. We
all know what those were!
