Barney Calhoun was a one-shot character, an almost criminal P.I. who gets hooked up with a woman who has killed her husband. Calhoun is hired to get rid of the body and he makes up a plan in which he and the woman drive off with the body. It's a very good book, a little bit like Jim Thompson but no so avantgarde in style.
