RARA-AVIS: Heat/LA Takedown

I can't remember whether or not I mentioned this before...

Michael Mann wrote the screenplay for Heat and could not get financing for it. When the TV movie deal came through, he ripped out all the
'character' scenes and subplots from his script and made LA Takedown. When the opportunity came for him to make a movie out of Heat, he simply took his existing script and used that. So LA Takedown was Heat-lite. Heat was not a padded LA Takedown.

Useless fact: In Mann's Violent Streets/Thief, starring James Caan, Mann cast many real-life/former cops (eg Dennis Farina) as gangsters and vice versa.
