Thanks Dick, I hadn't realized Mean Streets was a Mac book, he isn't mentioned on the jacket and I didn't look inside. I haven't read a Mac book in quite some time, but I remember enjoying them quite a bit.

I finally read the rest of the jacket copy and found this (I'm not kidding):

"I found the corpse in the back room of their clubhouse after a party. It was Bill Denton, the kid from a good home, the boy pitcher who had accidentally beaned a gang leader in a ball game.

"Bill Denton was dead, and lucky to be dead. He had been very badly used."
