Well, actually Kjelgaard didn't venture in the HB area. Once
I thought he did but now I know better. But I do know that at
least Robert Sidney Bowen who wrote for the pulps and couple
of Gerry Barnes books in the fourties wrote kiddies' sport
literature! Maybe there's a connection...
