I highly recommend "If He Hollers, Let Him Go..." It's his
first novel and it combines HB and social comment on racism
in the war industries during WWII. Try to to get a copy of
his short story collection too. Outside of the Harlem
domestics, I have also read and enjoyed "Yesterday Will Make
You Cry," the unexpurgated version of "Cast the First Stone",
"The Lonely Crusade", and "The Third Generation." "Yesterday"
is a semi-autobiographical account of his time in prison and
probably of the most interest to list members.
I just got a copy of his unproduced screenplay "Baby Sister"
and look forward to reading it.
