Manuel Puig (_Betrayed by Rita Hayworth_, maybe also _Kiss of
the Spider Woman_) and James Joyce (well, in _Diary of the
Artist..._ and
_Ulysses_, at least). IRFS that Joyce called 'em 'perverted
commas'.
