I've read something similar about a collaborative novel,
probably in one of the invaluable Lynn Munroe catalogs. I'm
pretty sure the book, or something similar to it, was one of
those Midwood soft-core novels from the days when Block and
Westlake were both working for the Scott Meredith
Agency.
