I thought the film of Miami Blues tried too hard to be
faithful to the book. Some of the dialogue -- that was great
on the page -- just didn't work on screen.

and Willeford
Hi Teri,
You asked Mark (not me) for comment,
but I couldn't resist commenting, because I have strong
feelings about the earlier and late Williford work. For my
money, the Hoke novels are by far his best stuff. Miami
Blues, Sideswipe, New Hope For The Dead, and The Way We Die
Now, and for my money, the foremost of these is Miami Blues
(even the movie was good).
