Burke mysteriously rid her of lupus in later books. I think
he did it by having her do the dirty boogie with Batiste in
the bayou, on those purple (or was it azure) evenings when
the dustball gray clouds gathering presage the storm, the
alligators and the cottonmouths lurk close, with lots of
po'boys and a cooler well stacked with Jax and Dr. Pepper.
Meanwhile, back at rara-avis....
