The HB Starter: A progression from the Hardy Boys to Arthur Conan Doyle to Raymond Chandler.

Although Rex Stout's status as hardboiled or cozy (or both) is open to debate, collecting, reading and re-reading his books have been an obsession since I was about 14 or 15, so he holds the No. 6 position on my list.
