Oh, I dunno. "Pearls Are A Nuisance," an early short story,
is decidedly out of character w/ Chandler's later work, and
the hero can hardly be called a proto-Marlowe. His flatnose
helper (I've forgotten both characters names) does remind one
a little (very little) of the later Moose Malone, however.
Anyone who wants hard proof of Chandler's Dulwich education
owes it to himself to read "Pearls." PB
