Not so much 'a battle', IMO, but a thread that's been taken up on the list a few times in the past. I mention it now, after seeing Mark raise it, not to pick up the thread again, but to point to it coming in up in a rather good article on Cornell Woolrich that can be found in Crime Time 2.7 which should be out (well, in the UK anyway) about anytime now.
