I hate lists giving a position to the nominees! But, on the
other hand, some lists can be enlightening when genuine and
by knowledgeable referees.
So why not to organize for a list of
*Hard-Boiled/Noir* authors elected by the Rara Avians, and
widely publish the results?
I think it's a great idea and add this proviso. That
rara-avians vote for five names by time period, (not sure of
the necessity for English and non-English categories) but
that the top ten are published. Why? Because for those less
knowledgeable, (like myself), who want to know more but have
limited reading time, (like myself) a list like this is
enormously helpful in deciding who to read and who to save
for later.
