Bill Crider:

<<THE WRONG VENUS isn't hardboiled, but it's definitely worth reading. Isn't that the one with the old pulp writer who's constantly coming up with outrageous plots? Also very funny are THE DIAMOND BIKINI and UNCLE SAGAMORE AND HIS GIRLS, which someone has already mentioned. Great examples of the use of the naive narrator in the Huck Finn vein. Williams was an enormously talented guy.>>

In The Diamond Bikini (a riot of a book), Williams even does (gasp) dialect! I remember reading this book in one sitting, laughing out loud at some of the best passages.
