I know Messenger's occupation isn't really germane to Pronzini's book, but since we're talking about accountant detectives, this small, classifying (okay, anal) mind would like to toss David Dodge's great Whit Whitney, CPA, into the ring, to keep Robert Dietrich (AKA E. Howard Hunt)'s Steve Bentley company. Whit appeared in four books back in the forties.

By the way, GUILTY KNOWLEDGE (published by Tor earlier this year) is Bentley's first appearance in 37 years.

Accountant detectives, indeed!

And Paul, I don't know why you can't reach me. My address is kvnsmith@colba.net. Is yours still pabergin@gte.net?
