RARA-AVIS: A Visit With Spenser

You're so right. I too look forward to my annual visits with Spenser.
(Although, he has published 3 books in the past 10 months!) I enjoy kicking back and hearing about what's been happening with him, and that includes hearing about Susan and Pearl. He's an old friend and I do want to stay in touch.

Now, Parker's new character, an alcoholic police chief or whatever, just holds no interest for me, although I read the two books about him ... just to be polite I suppose. I only found out yesterday that Parker has written a new book with a female PI. I can't wait to read it. I'll bet that Parker can write from a female perspective very convincingly.

Cheers,

Usually the earlier Spenser novels are the best: specifically everything before Catskill Eagle IMHO. His latest in hardback (the title escapes me Hush Money I think) features a little more into Hawk's background.

I really like Spenser, although everything after Catskill Eagle and before Walking Shadow is far from hard boiled, too much Susan and Pearl the Wonder Dog for me, still I do like the relationship between Hawk and Spenser and I am interested in visiting Spenser once a year, more for the character than for the mystery.
