I didn't like Parker's tone in this article. As in his review
of a Chandler reissue, he strikes me as arrogant, as if he
were speaking from a vantage point. This reader is not
interested in Parker but in Hammett and Chandler. At bottom,
Parker writes about Parker. Perhaps he is too involved in the
mechanics of the P.I. novel and therefore does not see the
forest for the trees.
Just my two cents, adjusted for inflation.
