I am a huge fan of Goodis' too. I think the comments by Jay
are right on, but for me I think there is a 'surrealistic'
quality to the writing and imagery.
I have heard that Goodis had a rather specific taste in
sexual matter - such as being abused by overweight women
either physically or mental. He sort of enjoyed being beaten
up by these women and sometimes by their boyfriends. Also he
was sort of a joker of sorts -lots of practical jokes,
etc.
Anyway he is totally under-rated and he was/is one of the
most unique artists in American literature.
