Tricia Allen finds the "raison d'bruise" in the novel; I
found some notes on the production of the film which indicate
that Al Pacino was on crutches after the restaurant hit scene
because he tore a ligament jumping into the getaway car. If
the Sicily scenes were shot afterward, perhaps he had marks
that make-up missed.
