If, Jane, you were referring to the James Lee Burke books as
being worth a peek, they are. Several peeks, in fact.
Haven't gotten around to the new Ridley book yet, but thanks
for the recommendation. His first book, Stray Dogs, was good,
too, but suffers slightly from that 90s publishing phenomenon
'the screenplay sold to the movies then written up and sold
as a book'. The movie was U Turn, directed by Oliver Stone
and starring Sean Penn.
McGarrity's a terrific writer and adds to my theory that New
Mexico must be some kind of place.
