About the Pinkertons: Unlike what is seen in the flicks,
Pinkertons concentrate on industrial security. For each
detective employed, they must have fifty guards. A detective
will be hired with absolutely no experience. He-she will
start out doing undercover work, looking for pilfering off
truck docks, other such improprieties. They receive a small
paycheck from Pinkertons plus the check they would have
earned anyway at the company they're undercover at. A small
crew of detectives do surviellance and tail work, again
mostly in the industrial world. It can be interesting work,
but they almost never make arrests, and even less time carry
guns. The pay is embarrassing little. In Chicago,
anyway.
