For Pennac and Daeninckx: original texts are in "straight"
French wherein some part of the dialog may be colloquial with
slang kept to a minimum.
Japrisot is writing in "straight" French
Simenon: rather simple language but with a realistic effect.
Most of his novels were translated into English, besides his
Maigret series. Pessimistic and very dark. He was qualifying
these novels as "durs"
(though).
It is rare today to find Noir/HB French novels written in
slang as it was happening in the 50's and early 60's. One of
the last authors to use slang for the narrative was Alphonse
Boudard in a mix of Noir and picaresque novels.
