Re: RARA-AVIS: Jazz, and noir endings

Dave (birdlives@earthlink.net)
Tue, 25 May 1999 12:38:03 -0700 Billie Holiday: Arrested for dope on her hospital/death bed.

Clifford Brown, (trumpet) and Richie Powell (piano): Died at 24, same
car crash.

Wardell Gray, (tenor): Shoots up, passes out, gets dumped out of a
moving car, breaks his neck.

Lee Morgan, (trumpet): Shot by his wife.

Chano Pozo, (congas): Shot in a bar.

Eddie Jefferson, (vocals): Killed by shotgun blast, mistaken identity.

Frank Rosalino, (trombone): kills his wife and daughters, then himself.

Sonny Criss, (alto): Shoots himself in the heart.

And a whole host of drug and alcohol related psychosis, suicide and
burn-out. No pain, no artistic gain, eh?

Dave
