A locked-room mystery is pretty much what the name implies -- a
dead
body is found in a locked room, how could it have happened? It
is a
mainstay of cozies and some authors specialized in it (Carr?).
As we
are currently finding out, there are also a fair number of
hardboiled
novels that play with this convention.
