Elizabeth Cowan, the
grandaughter of Eric Knight who, writing as Richard Hallas,
authored _You
Play the Black and the Red Comes Up_.
She also included this URL which further explains his career
and the events
surrounding his death.

"You Play the Black..." was one of the best books I read last
year. It's not
to be missed. The web site is interesting. My intro to the
books says that
Hallas was part of a film division for Special Services
(OSS). I always took
OSS to be espionage, etc. (precursor to CIA), but maybe they
did other
things, or maybe Hallas was part of those other things.
