RARA-AVIS: James Sallis

William Denton (buff@pobox.com)
Wed, 21 Apr 1999 13:25:50 -0400 (EDT) Jim Sallis (author of _Difficult Lives : Jim Thompson-David Goodis-Chester
Himes_) wrote me today. He's starting to think about a biography of
Kenneth Fearing and would like to hear from anyone who might have
something that would help.

Also, he says of his new book:

| The biography is CHESTER HIMES: A LIFE and will be published by
| Canongate Books/Payback Press in Scotland next spring. It's just gone
| out to U.S. publishers, so we don't know who'll publish here. Gallimard
| (who has bought all my novels and publishes Chester's) in France. It's
| a very long book, close to 130,000 words, and investigates very closely
| the relationship between Chester's life and work. Portions have
| appeared and are upcoming in Waterstone's Guide to Crime Fiction, High
| Plains Literary Review, the Ohio Review and North Dakota Quarterly.

So, keep an eye peeled. His address is jimsallis@aol.com.
