As far as remakes go, there was a controversy during the early
1980s
about Dimitri Gat's two Nevsky mysteries. Although they were
set in
Pittsburgh and had plenty of local flavor, they were pretty
blatant
rip-offs of Travis McGee novels, not just the plots, either,
there were
whole paragraphs that were nearly identical. The second,
Nevsky's
Demon, was "based on" Dreadful Lemon Sky. The first, Nevsky's
Return,
was "based on" another, Empty Copper Sea if I recall. Somebody
pointed
this out to MacDonald and the books were soon withdrawn.
