real bad one (I saw it myself some time ago), it is
however way below the book and certainly has not its
impact and density. It lacks some real noir color...
It happens that yesterday looking after some
references for another field, I came across a
reminder of a film-critic declaration about this
film, in a
lapidary formula (but right to the point):
"...Hollywood chic view of the Depression"

So if not yet done, read the novel first in order to
avoid to know too much about the plot.
The film is really not essential, neither in relation
to Mc Coy nor to Cinema top values.

And, no, by your question about films and video you
are not off-topic. Cinema is part of our discussions.
Anyway how to avoid it if we want to really discuss
about Noir and HB?
