I've ordered All The Pretty Horses and Blood Meridian by Cormac
McCarthy. The latter is particular interest to me in that several
members of the horror genre place it on their Top Ten lists. >>

Blood Meridian is awesomely "noir" but I don't recall any code of
personal honor that would place it in the hard-boiled camp, in my book
at least. I'd have to agree that the western and hardboiled genres
genres can be very close, once you rub out the ambient optimism that
went along with opening up the west.
