BLACK PUDDING also shows up in Pronzini and Adrian's HARD-BOILED anthology.
Too bad they couldn't have selected different stories for each anthology. Of
course, they may have been in production at the same time.

Goodis wrote a number of pulp stories for the aviation and war pulps before
"making his mark" as a hard-boiled crime writer. I've read only one of the
aviation war stories, and it really didn't strike me as any sort of
stand-out pulp story. I think the dissolute noir tales that we know him for
are his superior work. -- Duane
