Re: RARA-AVIS: Get Carter and Ted Lewis

Thu, 18 Mar 1999 22:36:51 -0500 (EST) I'm about two-thirds of the way through re-reading Get Carter, so I'll
wait until I'm done to comment on the book, but a few things on Ted
Lewis. At least three of his nine books were published in paperback in
the US -- Get Carter, Boldt (haven't read yet) and Grevious Bodily Harm.
As much as I like Get Carter, I agree with Etienne that GBH is his
masterpiece. Somewhat surreal and hallucinatory at spots, it is a great
noir.

I'm surprised none of the Crime Time people have chimed in to tell
anyone interested that issue #9 has a Get Carter cover, with two related
articles inside. One is an overview of Lewis's life and career, the
other is director Mike Hodges's account of the making of the movie.

Crime Time #12 includes Derek Raymond's memories of the man, focusing on
GBH and Jack's Return Home (AKA Get Carter).
