RARA-AVIS: Future readings

William Denton (buff@pobox.com)
Sun, 7 Mar 1999 23:15:49 -0500 (EST) This month's book is _Get Carter_, by Ted Lewis, although people may have
forgotten. I'm not sure if my last couple of automated reminders got out.
Anyone have anything to say on it? I haven't read it yet, and I haven't
even rented the movie so I could try and fake it. (I've been reading
magazines for the last two weeks while I wait for a special order to
arrive. I don't want anything stopping me from starting it as soon as it
arrives.)

There was talk about Iceberg Slim and Donald Goines. What do people think
of a grim one or two months while we look at _Pimp_ by Iceberg Slim and/or
_Whoreson_ by Goines? I'm not trying to offend anybody, but both writers
have been mentioned favourably here even though they'd probably be new to
a lot of readers (including me). The Goines book is in print at Amazon,
and Iceberg seems to be back out of print now.

After this, we should probably go back and do a month or two of classic
old stuff, and pull _They Shoot Horses, Don't They?_ (Horace McCoy) and
_Solomon's Vineyard_ (Jonathan Latimer) off the suggestion list.
