In the discussion of Ross Macdonald's influence, Kevin noted

Spillane's influence had waned, or been shunted off to
violent
sidekicks. Not being a big Hammer fan, I haven't really sought
out his
heirs (would probably be turned off by a jacket comparison to
him), but
I can think of at least one modern PI who owes a lot to Hammer
-- Wayne
Dundee's Joe Hannibal. I'm sure there are more. Now that I
think about
it, I might add Vachss' Burke.
