Re: RARA-AVIS: Westlake/Hamilton

Wed, 17 Feb 1999 12:44:37 -0600 As we've been talking about Westlake's Parker series, a contrast between
Helm and Parker occurred to me. When something like a hostage situation
happens, Helm will compare himself someone on tv, saying something like,"If
this were on On tv I'd throw down my gun to save her life(It's always a
woman.), but I'm a pro, and in real life she'll have to take her chances."

Parker would do whatever was necessary to accomplish his goal as a matter
of course with no reflection. You know what his character would do in a
situation. Unlike Hamilton, Westlake has no need to accentuate how tough
and realistic his character is.
