While researching Kersh, I found out that Mark McShane was so impressed by
Prelude and the way that it upturns crime conventions, that he realised that
there were no rules to writing books - and so he started writing crime and
mystery books, Seance On A Wet Afternoon being the most famous.

I wondered if anybody knows of other books which so singularly inspired a
writer to write?
