It may just be my lack of depth in the genre, but it seems to me that
object quests are not very common in Hard boiled lit. Sounds more like a
job for Indiana Jones or someone from the Cthulhu mythos.

But if the fantastic elements of a cthulhoid tale were too strong, I
imagine we would no longer class the piece as hard-boiled. The h-b dick
has a strong need to be grounded in gritty reality.
