Many times I recall that a thug with a .22 (especially a .22
Woodsman) was often perceived as good at his craft in hardboiled literature-
because his aim had to be good and he had to have a certain degree of
confidence when brandishing a small weapon. Marlowe and others make
reference along the lines of "he carried a .22 Woodsman. He had to be good."
