Any unclean feelings I had when I finished it would have come from it
being such an accurate display of modern corporate life, which can be a
grim and dirty place. I thought it was perfectly put together and should
be read by any intelligent person in business today (a small group, from
my recent experiences). Previously I'd only read one or two Dortmunder
books and hadn't thought much of them, but this clued me in to just how
good Westlake is. I hope in the future it's remembered as one of the
books best representing North America in the late '90s.
