RARA-AVIS: Bart Spicer/The Ax

Mon, 11 Jan 1999 13:03:48 -0600 (CST) I guess you could say I'm a Bart Spicer fan since I read all the Carney
Wilde novels many years ago. I thought they were all quite good, though by
the end of the series they practically weren't mystery novels any longer.

As for THE AX, most people I've talked to seemed either to love it or hate
it. I'm more on the "love it" side because of Westlake's writing skill, but
like Ted White, I felt a little unclean after reading it. I'm not sure I
was exactly rooting for the protagonist, but I wasn't rooting against him,
either.
