going to comment on the first part, any other novels to which porn is
essential? The Big Sleep certainly deals with porn, distributed through
Geiger's book shop, but this probably isn't what you want. A Wayne
Dundee novel (was it Burning Season?) is set in the porn movie industry.
And I seem to recall an early Jonathan Valin/Harry Stoner novel spending
a lot of time in nudie bars, ala the movie Hardcore. There's Peeping
Thomas by Robert Reeves and the Man Who Loved Dirty Books by David Guy.

That's it off the top of my head.
