that, at least theoretically, Himes could have written "motherfucker"
without fear of obscenity charges. However, it is possible that his
publisher wanted to forestall trouble and suggested the change.
Actually, in the peculiar private language of Coffin Ed and Grave
Digger, "mother-raper" sounds strangely appropriate.
