<<A friend of mine recently told me about reading
Mistress to Murder by
Robert Dietrich. He said it was okay, not great, but kind of
fun for
its local setting in DC. >>
I remember _Mistress to Murder_ as more than okay; I recall
it as an
exciting and suspenseful tale in an unpretentious but
effective style.
For the record, as a rule I prefer straightforward writers to
ornate
ones.
I'm jotting down some notes on the Chandler stories, which
hopefully
I'll be able to post in a few installments.
